About the Fellowship

The Institute for Ideas and Imagination offers a prestigious, full academic year fellowship at Reid Hall in Paris (running from September 2027 through May 2028). The program aims to dissolve the boundaries between academic and creative realms by bringing together a diverse cohort of scholars and practitioners from around the globe. Fellows are awarded a $75,000 stipend, a dedicated office at the Institute, comprehensive administrative and research support, and full access to Columbia University’s extensive library resources and research facilities across Europe.

Who is it for? The fellowship welcomes applicants from two main categories:

Columbia University & Barnard College: Tenured/tenure-track faculty, adjunct teaching faculty (with appointments extending beyond the fellowship year), and recent PhD graduates.

International Scholars & Creative Artists: Practitioners (including visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, etc.) and scholars of any nationality who are not permanently based in the United States. Non-Columbia scholars must hold a doctorate and have a strong publication record, while creative artists are expected to demonstrate a significant body of public work.
